CEF at RETC 2025 in Dallas
The Fire Testing Centre was present at RETC 2025 (Rapid Excavation and Tunneling Conference) from 9th till 11th of June in Dallas, Texas. With nearly 200 exhibitors and 21 technical sessions, this event brought together over 1.400 tunnel and underground space stakeholders from all over the world.
This international event was the opportunity to present the testing and calculation resources to ensure the fire safety of tunnel projects:
- Numerical assessment of structural fire behavior
- Verification of concrete spalling propensity
- Verification of voussoir sizing
- Fire resistance of equipments
- In situ tests and measurements : evaluation of ventilation and smoke extraction systems
Christophe TESSIER, Director of the Fire Testing Centre, presented the conference "State-of-the-Art Experimental Assessment of the Fire Spalling Behavior of SFRC Tunnel Liners", during which he presented the work carried out by Yassir Naouz and Gonzague Bracq (Bouygues Travaux Publics) and Mahmoud Abou Dalle, Nicola Mazzon and Fabienne Robert (Fire Testing Centre/CERIB).
With the example of fire tests and numerical modelling carried out on the Lot 4 tunnel of the Toulouse metro line, he explained how assessing the fire and spalling behavior of concrete is an essential step in tunnel construction.
