Decarbonization of construction: composite solutions are gaining ground

As regulations have changed, there have been increases in the use of bio-based elements in construction systems and in the numbers of requests for assessment. Examples include the solutions developed by GA Smart Building and A2C PREFA which propose composite wood–steel floor systems in response to the new issues facing the construction sector.

These innovative systems have been studied and assessed by CERIB’s Fire Testing Centre (FTC).

As required, the Fire Testing Centre implements its testing equipment and resources (test furnaces, natural-fire test rigs, fire-engineering skills) and deploys its technical and operational skills covering all fire-safety issues:

  • fire resistance (loadbearing capacity)
  • façades
  • protection of combustible insulation in housing and buildings open to the public
  • interfaces and connections
  • spread of fire.
